Explore the hidden landscapes of the Unknown Meteora on a guided summit hike to Arkouda Peak. Journey through forests and rocky ridges to enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the Pindus Mountains and, on clear days, Mount Olympus.

Discover the Unknown Meteora of Gavros on a rewarding guided hike to the summit of Arkouda ("Bear"), one of the area's finest viewpoints. This scenic mountain route leads to an elevation of 830 m, offering spectacular panoramas over the surrounding rock formations, the Pindus mountain range, and, on clear days, even the distant summit of Mount Olympus, the home of the Greek Gods.

Starting from the village of Gavros, part of the Meteora–Pyli UNESCO Global Geopark, we move off the beaten trail that gradually climbs through forests, open slopes, and rocky outcrops. Along the way, the landscape continuously unfolds, revealing ever-expanding views and the distinctive geological formations that have earned the area the nickname "The Unknown Meteora."

The hike covers approximately 5.5 km (3.4 miles) and is steady and accessible for active participants with a reasonable level of fitness. Moving at a comfortable pace, we take regular breaks to admire the scenery, learn about the landscape, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the mountain.

Reaching the summit of Arkouda, marked by its triangulation pillar at 830 m, rewards us with a remarkable 360-degree panorama. To the southwest, the rugged peaks of the Pindus dominate the horizon, while to the east, the legendary silhouette of Mount Olympus may appear in the distance when conditions are clear.

More than simply reaching a summit, this experience is about discovering a hidden mountain landscape, gaining perspective, and enjoying the sense of achievement that comes from standing above one of the most overlooked corners of the Meteora region.
